Snowflake Farms

Bio

Snowflake Farms I started needle felting in December, 2007.

I own an alpaca farm with 15 Suri alpacas, so have an endless supply of fiber.

I was looking for something unique to make with my fiber. I've learned to spin and can knit and crochet and have tried wet felting. As my first attempt, I needle felted a snowman and was hooked!! In searching the internet, I found very few needle felted alpacas – so I've been making them ever since. I have a little herd of alpacas made with white, beige, fawn and brown natural colors. Plus, I've sculpted them in several positions – standing, nursing, grazing, and kushed in sizes ranging from 3" to 7" tall. All are my own original creations. I use wool batting for the core because it's much easier to shape than Suri fiber, which is very, very slippery. Then I cover the "skeleton" with my fiber. I use photographs of my live alpacas as models.

Thank you, Deanna Britton, Benson, VT
